Overview
This is a Linux beginners textbook
intended for use in a three-credit, semester-length course. Some
familiarity with graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and command
line environments is assumed. The subject matter is approached
from both the GUI and command line in order to accommodate different
learning styles. Those students who have experience with Microsofts
Windows products will be able to adapt to Linux easily.
The topics range from rudimentary to advanced.
The advanced material covers elementary commands for shell scripting
and some local administrator tools. Since access to the root
level gives the user complete control of a system (the consequences
could be disastrous if this were put in the hands of students),
this subject is only explored and the details of implementing
access are not mentioned.
